Randomosity

Now with Extra Random! (And no, I don't mean the King of Amber...)

First off, Da News: Remember that costume design gig I didn't get a few weeks back? Well, the person they did hire had her assistant back out on her, so they offered me that job instead. Since I was waffly about taking on full responsibility for a show, even one that size, in my current sitch, I was just as relieved not to get it. But this? Perfect compromise. Less commitment, not having to be In Charge, with the commensurate $200 instead of $400. But hey, whatever the amount, getting paid to costume? Well, I'm not gonna say "there is no bad here," because I'm sure the Universe could find a way if it were really determined. But still, pretty darn cool.

And then there are the random thoughts that flit through my head because there's just a little too much room not taken up by cranking out legalese.

Such as... Many people consider the Wizard in Wicked (the musical, that is) to be an allegorical George Bush. Does that mean Glinda is Colin Powell? Because he'd look awfully silly in the dress. Although arriving by bubble might impress at least some foreign leaders.

Has anyone else noticed the epidemic of ficmares on LJ? Raise your hand if you've woken up recently going "Ack! Squick! OMGIamsonotwritingthis!!! Must! Scrub! Brain!" Did all the fanfic muses throw a big house party and decide to freebase Drano?

I turned on the news this morning, and there was Alan Keyes sounding like a candidate instead of a frothing talk jock. At least, they said it was him. I never would have known otherwise. Should we be looking for a Stepford remote control in the Illinois Republican committee office?

On that note, finally saw The Stepford Wives at the dollar cinema on Saturday. Possibly more disturbing as a comedy than it was when they took it (pseudo-)seriously. Even if they never did quite decide what their technology actually was. Bette Midler was a scream. Matthew Broderick still mugs a bit too much, but this was one of those places where it works. Nicole Kidman really needs to get over this blonde phase.

I'm sitting here at work at the mall supposed to look like I'm doing something important at the computer/register instead of goofing off reading LJs and fanfic and then I read this post and LOL like an idiot at that image! Ack!

Bad, bad, bad Wiliqueen!!!

Well considering in the book the Wizard is an allegory for Hitler...it makes sense that the musical would make him into a symbol of Bush.

I think maybe Glenda isn't Colin Powell, but Ashcroft. Because the idea of Ashcroft in a bubble wearing a pink dress gives me endless amusement.

Oh, and congradulations on the job!

Silly me responding to the silly thoughts instead of the important news.

Congratulations!

And . Politicians in pink froofy dresses. You know, this would make cabinet meetings more interesting.

Congrats on the job!

Well, I saw it with a couple of dyed-in-the-wool Republicans and they didn't see the Bushness of it. I did, though. Bush. And Nixon. And dozens of others who lead by fear.

Glinda, though, wasn't as powerful as Powell... I'd peg her more as Laura Bush, who is often dusted off and sent out to make soothing noises of social support to the press right before hubby whacks another domestic program. Laura/Glinda's job is to look good, make nice, and shut up when people start making actual decisions.

Congrats on the job!

Thanks! It's going to be fun.

*chuckle* I was a bit disappointed it never got mentioned in all the puff pieces about which shows the RNC did or didn't consider appropriate to send delegates to see. Even without gay puppets, I have a hunch it didn't make the cut...

Who would at least look much less silly in the dress. Powell can stick with the construction worker Village People karaoke outfit. ;->

Congratulations on the costuming gig! I know you really don't have the time for a big show, but a little work will keep your juices flowing. That's great!
