Well, so much for that idea.

My Song and Dance vocal selections book appears not to be here. I was sure I'd brought all my music. *frown*

I'm discovering I have a dearth of comic numbers in my repertoire. Which is a huge shock to anyone who knows me and my drama-queen tastes, I know. :-)

I hope that book is at the house, because I think it's out of print...

Oh no! Not good.

Comic numbers? You're a Mistress of Gitwyia, honey. I would be surprised if you DIDN'T have any! lol! But yes - some drama queen would be good.

*chuckle* I guess I should clarify: I have a dearth of comic numbers that are solos, and self-contained enough to work out of context in a cabaret setting, and for which I have music, and which I have enough in practice to actually perform. *deep breath*

I'd have more options, but I just tend to neglect them. I admit it, I'm a showstopper junkie...

Oh - I'm a showstopper junkie too. I always go the 20th century music for me - like this one piece that launched my uni career where it was testing the hypothesis that the sound of the flute can communicate with the dead. VERY cool!

Okay, wow. That's...wow. I would love to hear that.

I generally stick to the more mundane goals of (a) breaking your heart, (b) blowing the roof off, or (c) both.

Nature gave me a lyric coloratura instrument. I respect and nurture it. I did not feel obligated not to teach it to belt too. ;-)

LOL! Totally agree. Flute is very personal and spiritual to me. It is my breath, my energy, that communicate with my instrument. It is the depth of my creativity, you know? And as a singer, I think you understand that too. ;)

Definitely. My voice training for both singing and acting is ALL about that -- breath as the connection to the core of you. Our culture trains you to block off a lot of it, so it gets to be really interesting work.

I had this great solo for musical theatre from In Trousers. Called "I'm Breaking Down." It was hilarious, and I would be more than willing to share sheet music once I get back. Basically, think if Harper from Angels in America had a song.

Awesome! Can't wait to see.

I think I've heard more fabulous new-to-me musical theatre and/or cabaret-type songs in the last two Tuesday nights than I had in the previous YEAR. Another benefit of becoming a regular at this thing. :-D

You? Few comic numbers?

I am aghast, shocked, amazed...
